The University of Virginia - McIntire School of Commerce

This new, state-of-the-art university facility encompassed 254 tiered and radiused student desks, large custom student and faculty mailboxes, miles of paint-grade running trim, door frames, sidelights, paneling, cabinetry, solid surface countertops and complex skylight trim in the Dean’s suite.

An outstanding working relationship founded on trust between the builder, architect and ILEX Woodworking allowed for the successful execution of several architecturally-challenging design elements.

In fact, in addition to the original scope of work, ILEX undertook a significant door jamb, sidelight and window wall package that could have posed significant challenges if not executed properly. Thanks to the builder’s trust in ILEX, this phase of the project was negotiated, eliminating the time consuming job of qualifying subcontractors and evaluating scopes…and ultimately helping the general contractor avoid difficult and lengthy delays.

Additionally, ILEX generated full size CAD layout templates for the tiered and radiused student desks located in 13 large classrooms, solving the difficult task of locating the concrete steps for the tiered floors. The electrical and computer wiring rough-ins were then easily coordinated with the subcontractors.

I would gladly recommend ILEX to other institutional customers. — John Taylor, CCM, LEED
